A helmet (full or open face). See more on helmets below.
Long sleeved top and long trousers.
Suitable lightweight footwear, like trainers. Wellingtons and Hiking boots aren’t really suitable.
Being safe
Check generally tyre pressures and condition.
Be sure there is going to be enough tread to get you home! Don’t arrive with barely legal tyres.
Check tread depth
Check for nails and gashes.
Check wheel nuts are torqued correctly
Check brake disks and pads have plenty of life and the brake fluid is topped up. If you’re due to have your fluid changed within the next month or so, get it changed before the trackday, as older fluid will have a greater tendency to overheat with repeated braking.
Check the other engine fluids are topped up (oil, water & fuel). Don’t turn up with half a tank of fuel if doing a full trackday as you could find yourself limping to the nearest fuel station on your way home and it may not stock Super or Optimax.
Ensure that everything inside the car is tidied away and there are no loose items that can fly around.
Most tracks insist on your towing eye being fitted whilst on the track. Please make sure it is in your boot toolkit just in case.
You may want to remove your centre caps before going out on track. They have been known to fly off and retrieving them is out of the question unfortunately.
Other
Insurance
Insurance is not mandatory.
Your standard insurance policy will more than likely NOT cover you for trackdays.
Some insurance companies will cover you for trackdays for a premium.
You can usually book insurance on an event basis through the trackday operator but if you are a regular trackday enthusiast that would be prohibitively expensive.
In the event of a car to car accident each party is normally only responsible for the damage to their own car regardless of blame.
However, in all of the Trackdays that the TTOC has run, we have never had one single incident. Remember, all the drivers are likeminded... and
All the drivers are roughly driving the same type of car
Everyone is going in the same direction
There are no roundabouts
No traffic lights
No junctions
No tailgaters
No lane changing
And generally there are largish runoff areas
No one is forcing you to go faster than either you or your TT want
Whilst this should make you feel more comfortable about tracking your TT, accidents can happen.
Helmets
Full or open face helmets must be worn.
Passengers & alternate drivers
All passengers must be over 16yo and proof of age may be required. We may make a small charge on the day for passengers, but it will be no more than £10 per passenger. Please make sure they have a helmet, long sleeved clothing, etc
You may also want your passenger to be able to drive on one of the sessions. Please make sure they bring their driving license and attend the driver briefing. Don’t their helmet, etc. We may make small charge on the day, but it is likely to be no more than £10.
Trackday tickets can be purchased in the TTOC shop
